Stick Timer

The stick timer is made from a woman's Timex IRONMAN TRIATHLON wrist watch that can be purchased at any Walmart store. The wrist band is discarded. A piece of aluminum taken from a soda pop can was cut to the width of the wrist strap as it passed over the pins. The strip is threaded through under the pins and over the back side of the watch. The protruding ends are bent down so that they fit inside a thin wall aluminum tube whose outside diameter is the same as the stick outside diameter.

The aluminum tube is cut so that the watch will fit on it at angle and the soda pop aluminum strip ends can pass straight down into the inside of the tube. This takes a little while to get it cut and filed to the correct angle. Before pop riveting the strap to the inside of the tube is a good time to cut the bicycle handle bar grip to the correct angle.

To assemble, cut the aluminum tubing to the desired length. Slide the watch and the strip ends into position. Slide a piece of wood dowel up inside the tube to press the strip against the tube and drill for the pop rivet. Repeat for the other end of the strip. Aluminum rivets are used because the assembly must be disassembled to replace the battery in the watch. Next slide the precut bicycle handle bar grip up over the tube and into place. If the watch is a little floppy, just push the grip up a little further to stabilze it, and drill and place the last pop rivet. Then slide it over the stick into position.

It makes the stick about two inches longer. It is easy to use because you can press the buttons with your thumb. Mine weighs 1.4 ounces.
