Getting Simonini Victor 1 Ready To Go - Fuel Pump & Carb Modifications

The fuel pump was lightened so that it could be mounted on the belt shield on the flywheel cover. I wanted to mount the pump so that all connections were short (to save weight) and to prevent hydraulicing by placing the pump above the pulse pressure source.

The original mounting lugs were removed and much of the under structure too. This reduced the weight of the pump by about one third.

To save a little weight, the guides for the throttle and choke cables were shortened and the locking nuts were discarded. A little silicone on the threads was used to lock them in place.

The throttle slide idle adjustment screw was drilled to remove excess weight. One can adjust the idle with a penny.

Steel cable guides were adapted from bicycle brake calipers for the carburetor. They are lighter than the brass ones that can be purchased. Also they have a slick plastic tube liner that lets one make sharper bends.

By running the cables forward one can remove the top of the carburetor and change needles or settings with no interference from the cables. Also one can remove the carburetor and/or reed assembly with out having to disconnect the cables.
